CalArts shaped me into the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more proud and thankful to be an Alumni. CalArts was the only college to let me major in multi-focus percussion performance and cello. David “DJ” Johnson was an incredible teacher and mentor and rebuilt all of my previous technique to make me the strongest musician I could be. Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick showed me how to play cello effortlessly and passionately. I was a Resident Assistant in the dorms for 4 years and learned how to be a leader and a mentor, and made lifelong friendships. The coolest thing I got to do was add a 5th year at CalArts to study post production sound design, editing, and recording engineering in the film school under the guidance of the renowned Gary Mairs (thank you for being the best mentor and teacher, Gary!). I was always fond of film and was able to use my accumulated knowledge of percussion and music towards becoming a sound designer. I got to collaborate on countless student films and animations, 5 of which were featured in film festivals, and TA an MFA level sound design class. I will cherish these memories and friendships forever!
